Happy Dad’s Day
Back when I was ten years old, I remember pouring my heart into a Father’s Day gift for my dad. I took a piece of hessian-like fabric (that’s a fancy word for the brown, coarse sacking that big bags of potatoes come in) and sewed (in my very best stitching) a mug of beer and an outline of a dog. In full disclosure, we didn’t actually have a dog at the time — my Dad wouldn’t allow it — so this was my way of “subliminally” getting my message across, as only a ten-year-old girl can do! When my dad opened my present, he declared (very graciously) that my higgledy-piggledy cross-stitches and somewhat irregular “fabric art” were the best he’d ever seen! My dad hung that piece of “art” in a prominent place, much to my chagrin, where it remained for the next 25 years, until he passed away.
While it’s true that the best gifts are homemade, there are some very cool Father’s Day gifts I’ve since stumbled across, that I thought I’d share. Maybe you need to drop a not-so-subtle hint to your family, or maybe you still need to buy a gift before Sunday for the dad in your life. Here are four of my favorites:
- The Trunk Club – Personal Styling for the Dapper Dad
- The Peak Ultimate Fitness and Sleep Tracker for the Tech-Savvy Dad
- The Rite in the Rain Waterproof Tactical Memo Book for the Outdoors Dad
- The Dollar Shave Club Membership (one of my favorite companies, their marketing is awesome) for the Classic Dad
